About the Author
DOMINIQUE RAMBURE, A former banker (Citibank, Credit Lyonnais among others) lectures at Paris I University on payment systems and finance in China. He is Honorary Chairman of the Euro Banking Association, the first clearing system in the European currency. As consultant to the World Bank and the European Commission, he has been involved in the transition of financial systems in Eastern Europe and Russia.
ALEC NACAMULI is Global Payments Executive at IBM. He was previously a member of the Executive Committee at SWIFT which he joined at its inception, where he led its geographical expansion and opening to the securities industry and value-added services. He is the editor of the Journal of Payments Strategy and Systems.

excellent overview for the interested professional

This is the best overview I have found, of the payments systems in the world - how they work, and the way the different exchanges work. It is not for those who know nothing about finance and banking, but certainly good for those (like me) who know finance but not much about how payment systems work. The authors have wisely chosen to stay away from describing the technology products that run the world's financial systems, since they change too fast anyway, but have stayed focused on the important systems that will not change. if you want to know how credit cards work, how banks transfer funds abroad etc., this is a great introduction.

Apart from dealing with the various payment systems also covers various significant issues that arise due to transmission of data such as legal, financial & competitive at length; generally ignored in other books.
It covers all major economies like US, Europe and Asia. Covers various mode of payments and instruments used in these economies and there benifict and flaws.
Recommended for high level view on payments sytems across the globe!!!

Excellent Overview Of Payment Systems

This is a great overview of payment processing principles and systems. It starts with an architecture of payment systems and then goes into descriptions of the major payment systems around the world. I highly recommend it to anyone that wants a non-technical overview.
