About the Author
Aana Marie Vigen explores healthcare disparities, the commodification of life, ethnographic methods in medical ethics, and notions of a "a good death" in her scholarship and teaching. Currently Assistant Professor of Ethics at Loyola University Chicago, she earned her Ph.D. in Social and Theological Ethics at Union Theological Seminary in New York in 2004.

This is an important study based on interviews with healthcare recipients. It captures respondents' perceptions of health issues that most often are assessed only by service providers. It is slightly outdates already, but this does not take away its value as an example of an exploratory approach to the inequalities in our healthcare system.
