Penetrating Arguments, Convoluted Style

Burt offers a convincing justification of the uniqueness of medieval film; how it deals in the fictional as well as the factual, and how it subverts any attempts by historians to categorize it as either 'bad' or 'good' history. He challenges the insights of New Historicist critics such as Stephen Greenblatt, arguing that their approach is perhaps inadequate to describe the experience of medieval film and its particular effect on audiences. My only cavil about this book is that it is written in a needlessly convoluted style, with many long sentences tending to run away with themselves. What was it Ben Jonson said about "pure and neat language I love, but plain and customary?"
