KATE VITASEK is Lead Researcher and Faculty Member for Vested Outsourcing at the University of Tennessee's Centre for Executive Education, USA. Vitasek is also Founder of Supply Chain Visions, a consulting firm that specializes in supply-chain strategy and education. She is a guest faculty at dozens of Universities and also teaches seminars for the Warehouse Education Research Council, Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals and is on the peer review board for the Journal of Business Logistics with Jeanette Nyden, JD, Jacqueline Crawford, and Katherine Kawamoto.

Outstanding!! Real value from real research and knowledge

This book is for anyone that wants to better manage the relationships they have with 3rd parties. I think what impressed me most is the book is not just someone's idea of what should or could be done. But rather it is based on research. Then Ms. Vitasek takes you through a step by step process on how to think differently to ensure the value you receive equals the value you expected. This is a well written book that gives you solid take a ways. Ms. Viasek doesn't diminish the book with unachievable results like other books on the topic. This is a different approach that I believe will be the next way people approach long term strategic relationships!

Spot On....

Congratulations to Kate and her co-contributors. Vested Outsourcing and the mentality that it creates within a company allows them to realize all the true value suppliers can create. I love the focus on `don't tell them what to do; tell them the results you want". This allows suppliers to bring their experiences to create value far in excess a procurement professional can obtain in traditional supplier relationships. The roadmap on how to find the value that allows a mutually beneficial relationship and the focus on Total Cost of Ownership rather than unit price will allow any practitioner to add more hard dollars for their company's bottom line.

A process whose time has come

"The Vested Outsourcing Manual" is the "How." The original, "Vested Outsourcing: Five Rules That Will Transform Outsourcing," is the "What." Obviously both are required reading and referencing for those supply chain professionals and leaders who desire to achieve the potential offered by this new state of Vested Outsourcing when practiced with their external business relationships.
Most importantly, "The Vested Outsourcing Manual," is more than a guide, or a how-to. Each chapter is a readable, clearly defined and detailed explanation of a specific element or factor that is essential and critical to creating an effective and workable Vested process and outsourced business relationship.
Individual chapters are provided for each of the Five Rules of Vested Outsourcing, along with their appropriate elements for a Vested Agreement, of which there are ten in total. Within each chapter is contained a complete discussion of the topic along with an appropriate illustrative case study or two, along with homework assignments to be carried out by the reader and/or team.
Of significance, Kate and her team, give special emphasis to the criticality and importance of Collaboration during the negotiation stage, by describing it as a "constant process that includes a lot of "give-and-take," and by defining its negotiation philosophy as, "what's in it for we," as opposed to the traditional, "what's in it for me" approach. To bolster the "we," and to also support and maintain Collaboration as an ongoing process, four repeating steps are defined that comprise the Vested Collaboration Wheel (Internal Alignment, Data Analysis, Improvement Identification, and External Alignment).
While Vested Outsourcing will not the best approach for every outsourcing situation and agreement, in those instances where it can and will be implemented, done according to the model proposed in "The Vested Outsourcing Manual," it has the potential to provide significant benefit and impact to all of the engaged parties.
