A book that gets to the heart of what is missing in education

This is a must-read for anyone who believes that schools can do much more to educate children about social injustice, teaching tolerance and peace education, and other emotional intelligence elements that are important if we want to begin changing attitudes and perceptions, which will eventually lead to changed behavior. The author excels at explaining ideas and concepts in a new light--a real eye-opener. The book provides great suggestions on how schools can teach these important ideas in ways that students will truly learn about our world's problems, and how they can play a role in making lasting changes.

An excellent book highly relevant to our current and future concepts of education

This is a wonderful book for educators and non-educators alike. It serves to highlight the critical need for educating individuals towards a greater understanding of the underlying factors as well as consequences of violence not only on a small local scale, but also globally. The scope and examples utilized in this book are excellent and serve as a great reminder as to why education should serve as a vehicle for non-violence. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable and educational read.

Excellent resource

This is an incredible book that nicely lays out the need for peace education. It provides hope for those of us who are committed to teaching for peace. While current pedagogical structures are not effective in helping students to become contributing community members, this book provides real and effective pedagogical practices to help students become leaders withi their commuities.
